Marion Arndt Golden

Marion Golden

Marion Arndt Golden died on Sunday, November 6th at the age of 92. She and her husband Jim, who preceded her in death in February 2011, were longtime residents of Oakdale and Turlock California.
Marion was born in 1919 in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania to Florence and David Arndt. One of 3 children, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lock Haven State Teachers College. In 1945 she married James M. Golden. Jim was the older brother of her first husband, William Golden who was killed in WWII. Together they raised three beautiful children.
Marion was an active and well-loved member of all the communities where she lived. She was a devout and passionate member of the United Methodist Church, serving on committees, leading worship, raising mission funds, and most importantly ministering to her fellow parishioners. She truly enjoyed visiting the elderly, those recovering from illness or surgery, and the homebound.
Marion, as comfortable at a dinner party as on a farm, was renowned for her stunning gardens, canned fruits and vegetables, tasty jams and jellies and delicious baked goods. During the depression, she and her mother baked doughnuts and sold them to make ends meet.
She is survived by her children, Jim and his wife, Barbara, Susan, Bill and his wife, Cindy; grandsons, Matt and his wife, Sveta, Jonas and Calen; great-grandson, Dmitri; and a soon to arrive great-granddaughter.
A Memorial Service will be held to honor both Jim and Marion on Saturday, November 19 at 1:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Turlock. Please join us to celebrate a life lived with humor, grace and a deep faith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Church World Service Fund. Make checks payable to the Turlock First United Methodist Church (1660 Arbor Way, Turlock, CA 95380) with "Marion Golden Memorial" on the memo line.
