Neta “Kay” Pinney, 70, passed away on Feb. 6, 2011, at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson. She was born April 1940 in Oklahoma to the late Jack and Lizzie Shackelford. She came to Turlock when she was 2 years old and graduated from Turlock High School in 1958. She married Melvin Pinney in June of 1958. She worked for the Turlock School District for many years before retiring from the Denair School District as their cafeteria manager.
She was involved in PTA, 4-H Club, Turlock Horsemen’s Club, and was a track official at the Merced Speedway. She was a member of the Merced Dirt Riders and her favorite hobby was quilting.
Kay is survived by her children, Alice (Robert) Hotchkiss of Turlock, Virginia (Mike) Damas of Ceres, Mel (Janelle) Pinney of Denair and Charlene (Kelly) Bargas of Turlock; 11 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren with one great grandchild on the way. She is also survived by her siblings, Arvel Shackelford of Idaho, Kelly Shackelford of Sonora, Wayne Shackelford of Turlock, Thelma Lackey of Washington, Ruby Rodriguez of Turlock, Marie Gunsch of Turlock and Betty Graham of Turlock. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; brothers, Lyndell and Harold Shackelford; and a great grandchild.

An inurnment graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 11 at Turlock Memorial Park. Reception to follow at Turlock Horsemen’s Club, 1506 S. Tegner Rd., in Turlock.
