For the Cal State Stanislaus men's and women's track and field teams, many personal lifetime records and season bests came on a busy day in Southern California meets on Friday.
Alycia Wagner soared to a new height on the day as part of a large contingent of Warrior athletes at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University. The junior cleared 11 feet, 11 3/4 inches in the women's pole vault for a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying height. The 3.65-meter mark currently ranks 13th on the performance list.
"It was a really good day for our student-athletes with many PRs and seasonal bests," head coach Geoff Bradshaw said. "They are peaking at the right time and hitting stride as we approach (the conference championship meet)."
The lengthy list of Warriors hitting lifetime bests begins with women in the field events with Britnie Cooksey going 17-feet-5 in the long jump. Teammates Rio Schwalbach (5-3 in the high jump) and Kristy Long (10-11 3/4 in the pole vault) also had personal bests. In the shot put, Jeni Cunha was at her best with a 41-7 3/4 while posting a seasonal high of 95 feet in the discus throw.
Cooksey (34-1) and Schwalbach (34-6 3/4) both also had season best marks in the triple jump to add to their day while Annie Burlingham managed a third-place finish in the pole vault with a 11-5 3/4. Burlingham entered the weekend ranked 11th in the nation in the event with a 12-2 set on April 3 at American River College.
In the women's track events, Derrhea McLiechey made it into CSUS's top 10 list with her 57.04-second run in the 400-meter dash. She also had a seasonal best in the 200-meter dash in 25.38 seconds. Alyssa Thiele (1500m, 5:04) and Ufuoma Egbikuadge (400m, 60.87) both posted career bests in their events. Additionally, Brittni Showers (12.57) and Whitney Anderson (12.84) clocked 2010 bests in the 100-meter dash.
On the men's side, Antoine Sept had "huge PR" in the pole vault with a 13-9 1/4. Juan Garcia (22.94) and Michah Judish (23.17) both had career bests in the 200-meter dash and Terence Ellis posted a career best with a time of 1:54.6 in the 800-meter run.
Tyler Thiele shaved nearly nine seconds off his previous best time in the steeplechase with a time of 10:17 while the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Terry Gross, Ellis, Jesse Ooten and Jerome Johnson posted a seasonal best in 3:18.03.
A few Warriors also competed at the Mt. SAC Invitational 11 miles away in Walnut, where Kasey Burlingham cleared 15-11. The defending champion is already the second ranked in the country in the event this year with a 16-8 3/4 set on Feb. 27 at the Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium during the CSU Stanislaus open.
Will Harding (hammer, 154-09), Denali Foldager (1500m, 4:39.86) and Rubye Foldager (1500m, 4:43.18) also competed at Mt. SAC.

Sonoma State sweeps Stanislaus baseball
Corey Conflenti smacked two home runs in the nightcap, but a high-scoring affair went in favor of the Seawolves as Sonoma State took both CCAA baseball games Friday from Cal State Stanislaus in Rohnert Park.
The Warriors were held to three hits in a pitching duel in the opener before dropping a 3-1 decision. In the nightcap, a total of 23 runs were scored in a 16-7 game that went Sonoma State's way.
Cal State Stanislaus, now 17-22, 13-17 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, will take today off before hosting the season home finale doubleheader on Sunday against the Seawolves (20-22, 13-17 CCAA).
Conflenti was the offensive highlight for the Warriors in game two that featured 23 hits, including a total of eight home runs and six doubles. Conflenti led off the game with a solo shot to left and belted a three-run bomb, again to left, in the eighth.

Warriors softball humbled by Humboldt State
A game of inches set the tone for the day as the resurrected Humboldt State Lumberjacks won both ends of the doubleheader on Friday at Warrior Softball Field.
Humboldt State used a two-run homer and escape two-near home runs by Cal State Stanislaus to win game one, 4-3, in eight innings. Then the Lumberjacks used a four-run second to take game two, 6-2.
The usually powerful Lumberjacks struggled in the first half of the season and seemed to have caught fire in the second half with 10 conference games remaining. The Lumberjacks, winners of eight of their last 10 games, improved to 23-21 overall and 13-13 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cal State Stanislaus (13-30-1, 8-22 CCAA) had its four-game winning streak ended, but the Warriors were a few inches away from an opener win on Friday.
