Stanislaus women fall to undefeated Otters

The well-balanced team of Cal State Monterey Bay remains undefeated after the visiting Otters defeated the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors, 83-71, at Fitzpatrick Arena on Friday.

Julie Heurung had a career-high 21 points to lead CSUMB to 15-0 overall and 11-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Warriors dropped to 7-8 overall and 5-6 in the CCAA. Andreanna Marshall had 17 points to lead Stanislaus.
It was a close game in the first half with neither team leading by more than six points. The Otters finished the half leading the Warriors 44-42.

Cal State Monterey Bay took their momentum to the second half and earned an early six-point lead over the Warriors.  The Otters then had a 10-0 run which gave them a 13-point lead at 7:17 after a pair of good free throws by Shonetta Crain-Williams. 

Fouls are something that affected the flow of the game, with a total of 53 fouls in the game — the Warriors with 32 and the Otters with 21.

Contributing to Stanislaus' effort was Katie Busi and Theresa Henderson with 14 points apiece.  Busi also led the team with seven steals.  Henderson and Lauren Godde each had five rebounds.

Marshall had a perfect 10 from the foul line and led the Warriors with four assists.

Proving to be a balanced team, Monterey Bay had three individuals that recorded double digit points in addition to Julie Heurung's record night.  Holly Holcomb had 15 points, Crain-Williams had 14 points and LaShawn Johnson recorded 12 points.  Heurung also led her team with six rebounds and five assists.

The Warriors will look to improve their record tonight when they face the San Francisco Gators.  Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Arena.
