Four-time defending regular-season champion UC San Diego has been tabbed to capture the 2010-11 California Collegiate Athletic Association women's basketball title, according to a poll of league coaches that was released Thursday.
The Tritons received 114 points and six first-place votes to finish ahead of Chico State. The Wildcats collected four first-place votes and 103 points while Cal Poly Pomona was picked third after totaling 89 points.
Cal State Stanislaus, coming off a 10-16 overall and 9-13 CCAA season, was picked to finish 11th. The Warriors finished in a four-way tie for seventh place in 2009-10 but did not qualify for the conference tournament due to tie-breaking rules.
Humboldt State, the 2010 CCAA Tournament champion, was selected fourth after tallying 87 points. Cal State Monterey Bay (82) was fifth and Cal State L.A. was sixth after garnering 80 points and two first-place votes. Cal State Dominguez Hills (54) was seventh and followed by Cal State San Bernardino (49), San Francisco State (41), Sonoma State (39), Cal State Stanislaus (25) and Cal State East Bay (18).
Cal State East Bay, which is in its second season as a member of the CCAA, is ineligible for the conference title while going through its exploratory phase.
