Warriors finish nightcap of tournament with win

Missy Corral's two-run RBI single in the second inning turned out to be a key hit as the Cal State Stanislaus softball team took the nightcap on Friday. The Warriors beat Western Washington 5-2 to end the first day of Tournament of Champions, presented by Mizuno, at Pedretti Park.
The win allowed the Warriors (7-23-1) to finish the first day of the tournament on a high note after dropping the first two games. They had lost to Grand Canyon 12-2 and Dixie State 6-4.
Leading 1-0, Nicole Jenkins drove in a run in the second and two batters later, with two runners on, Corral hit a liner just over the third baseman for a two-run single to give the Warriors a 4-0 lead.
Brittani Weatherford earned the win in the nightcap as she allowed just two runs on three hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. She struck out four and walked three and improved to 4-13.
Weatherford was the workhorse for the Warriors as she pitched a total of 14 2/3 innings in three games.
Six different Warriors each had a hit in the game versus Western Washington. Nikky Rissetto and Brittany Balanesi each had a double.
Against Dixie State, after trailing 2-0, the Warriors rallied and took a 3-2 lead after a timely double to right by Corral, which scored two runs in the fifth inning. That followed Jennifer Arnold's solo homer in the fourth to give the Warriors the lead.
However, Dixie State's Breanna Egge belted a three-run homer in the bottom of fifth to put the Red Storms ahead.
Luna continues to be hot offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double. However, Sarah Locarnini went 0-for-3 with a walk to end her consecutive game hitting streak at 20.

Stanislaus baseball takes conference win
The Warriors baseball team scored early then had to hold on in the late innings as they opened the CCAA series with a 4-1 win over Cal State Monterey Bay.
Cal State Stanislaus improved to 12-14 overall and 8-9 in the conference. Cal State Monterey Bay dropped to 6-24 and 2-19 in conference play.
John Canepa went 3-for-4 with a triple to lead the Stanislaus charge offensively while Corey Conflenti was 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Michael Johnson singled in Conflenti in the first inning after Conflenti led off the with a single. The Warriors also had two runs in the second with Conflenti driving in Vince Hungerford. Ross Gonsalves scored on a wild pitch to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead.
