Girls youth soccer team on good roll

The Turlock Tornados girls soccer under-13 team is on a winning streak, and the players and coaches hope to continue their good fortune.
Last weekend, they ended up big winners after capturing the Pleasanton Rage Showcase in Pleasanton — defeating Diablo FC in the championship match of the eight-team tournament. The Tornados had nearly 40 shots on goal while giving up less than 10 shots on goal.
Clarissa Sandoval led with three goals in the tournament followed by two apiece from Taylor Miguel and Cady Riley. Natalie Larson and Savanah Riddle each contributed with a goal.
Ashleigh Phelps, Carissa Lopez and Miguel all finished with assists.
Again, the Tornados have found some good fortune.
On July 19, they won the Mid-Summer Classic at the Turlock Sports Complex — which had teams from California playing in various age divisions — by beating Santa Rosa in the championship game.
The Tornados are coached by Ione Love with assistant Doug Delay, in addition to Stacy Phelps serving as the team manager. They hope to continue their good streak in the Tracy United Girls Invitational on Saturday and Sunday in Tracy.
