For the first time since 2019, the FoodMaxx Arena at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds in Turlock opened its doors to fairgoers on July 8 and 9 for the highly anticipated return of arena entertainment. The two days featured a variety of tractor pull competitions with individuals from up and down the west coast competing.

Friday’s show was reserved for the roaring diesel and smoker vehicles, with a total of 52 pulls taking place.

The pulling of the Limited Pro Stock tractors kicked off the action, a competition between eight drivers each pulling over 7,900 pounds. Merced’s Cody Beaman took first place out of the group after pulling a distance of 289.36 feet with his truck, Wide Load. Trey Smith of Concord pulled 288.85 with his truck, Money Muncher, to clinch second place. Manuel Vierra of Oakdale rounded out the top three with a 288.66 foot pull with his truck, Lil’ White.

The 9300 Super Farm competition was dominated by a familiar face of local tractor pull competitions. Hilmar’s Jeff Perry competed twice with two of his trucks, Back for More and Power Trip. With his two vehicles, Perry was able to capture first and third place.

Back for More grabbed the first place spot with a pull of 321.25 while Power Trip’s 319.58 foot pull was good enough for third. A driver who went by the name of Craig captured second place with a pull of 320.34.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s event was reserved for the modified gas and alcohol vehicles. A total of 60 pulls took place throughout the evening.

The city of Turlock was well represented on Saturday. Patti King participated in the 6,500 Super Modified competition. King pulled 5,770 pounds in her 1978 Chevy a distance of 270.21, which earned her third place. Dalton Allen was the lone participant in the 4,500 S competition, where he pulled a distance of 281.24.

In the 5,500 Super Modified competition, Sonora’s Richard Berchtold captured first place with a pull of 297.37. Vince Dias of Hughson came in second with pull of 285.43. Boyd Clifton of Kings City rounded out the top three with a pull of 279.42.

The 5,600 Econo Mod only saw two drivers compete. Austin Terra of Escalon beat out Leland White of Ceres. Terra pulled a distance of 287.86 while White had a pull of 271.07.

Leroy Vierra of Hilmar took home first place for the 5,800 Mod Tractor competition with a pull of 339.70. Mark Zohns of San Luis Obispo came in second with a pull of 283.82. Trevor Massetti of Madera came in third after pulling 246.34.
