Turlock softball snapped a four-game losing streak on Thursday in the team’s penultimate Central California Conference matchup in what resulted in a close 3-1 win over El Capitan.

Junior Sophie Mayol drilled a pair of homeruns for Turlock and sophomore pitcher Shelby Frutoz continued her impressive season and picked up her 14th victory after tossing a complete game, while allowing just one hit and an unearned run while striking out 10.

This gave the Bulldogs a 6-5 CCC record, tying them with Pitman for the third and final playoff berth heading into their final meeting of the year on Tuesday.

“I think our team is ready for the game against Pitman,” said Turlock head coach Jill Ogden. “This group has worked hard this year and they play really well together.”

Turlock was a young team that didn't have more than three seniors starting at one time, but they progressed as best they could, anchored by Frutoz and Mayol.

After Thursday's game, Frutoz (.439) and Mayol (.435) stand above the rest in the CCC in nearly every major category.

The Bulldogs have also now won the most games since 2009 with 14.

Turlock will host Pitman for third place and the final playoff berth at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
