Delhi tennis captures back-to-back SAL titles

The Delhi High co-ed tennis team is advancing eight players to the Section tournament after a standout performance from the Southern Athletic League tournament on Thursday and Friday.

Delhi also defeated Ripon High, 6-3, in the opening round of the Division-I Sac-Joaquin Section team tournament on Monday.

The Hawks captured their first ever back-to-back SAL regular season league titles after completing the perfect season.

Last Thursday, the SAL tournament kicked off and the Hawks’ momentum just kept going.

On the boys singles side, Jesse Ponce won the championship while on the boys doubles, Harjap Bilg and Ben Garcia captured the title.

On the girls singles bracket, Judith Perez was a runner-up while also qualifying individually for the Section tournament.

Brianna Gutierrez and Ailene Salazar were runners-up in the girls doubles tournament for Delhi while on the boys doubles, Zeke Cervantez and Eduardo Arroyo made the final but fell, ending the day as runners-up.

Delhi is sending eight players to the Section individual tournament on May 3 and 4.

Half of the SAL Section team is from Delhi.

Delhi will also square off against No. 2 West Campus in the second round of the Division-I Sac-Joaquin Section co-ed tournament on the road at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
