Turlock girls golf
Turlock sophomore Savannah Van Gaalen tees off during Merced High's Girls Golf Invitational at the Merced Golf and Country Club (SAMANTHA SCHMIDT/The Journal).

Savannah Van Gaalen carded a 77, while Sydney Streeter and Isabella Dowd shot 84 and 88, respectively, in leading the Bulldogs to a team victory at the Merced Invitational at Merced Golf and Country Club on Monday. 

Turlock also got a 94 from Natalia Lightfoot for an overall team score of 343, 34 strokes better than Union Mine (377) and 45 shots ahead of Mountain House (388).  

Individually, Van Gaalen placed third, behind Lillian McGowan (74) of Union Mine and Ashlee Xu (75) of Mountain House. Reese Benjamin shot a 98, but hers was not counted in Turlock’s final tally as only the top four scores are submitted. 

Hilmar finished in sixth place with a team score of 443. The Yellowjackets were paced by Emily Cogswell, who shot a 94. 

Pitman finished eighth with a team score of 460, getting a 94 from Monet Sayadian.
