Hilmar High’s defense continued its dominant performance on Friday, notching a fifth straight victory, this time in a Trans Valley League opener against Modesto Christian in a 30-0 shutout.

The 'Jacket defense was able to control Modesto Christian all game long, allowing only 129 total yards of offense while racking up 429 yards themselves in an overall well balanced win.

“I think the key word is team because these kids aren't selfish and play as a great team. These kids believe in each other,” Hilmar head coach Frank Marques said.

At halftime the score read 9-0, but the 'Jackets weren't done. A second half surge began with a pick-six from Giovanni Salcedo and would end in the beginning of the fourth quarter with a 56-yard touchdown run from quarterback Jonathan O’Brien, who also passed for over 200 yards and a TD in the air.

The ‘Jackets have outscored opponents 180-39 in five games, including two shutouts and will travel to Orestimba next Friday with the game set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
