Denair High returns to winner's column

Denair won its first game at the varsity level since the 2012 season Friday night when it rushed through Riverbank High and onto victory by a score of 54-8. The Coyotes (1-1) beat the Bruins (0-2) on the ground with 410 rushing yards, most of which came by way of Alex Valle and Austin Hughes.

Defensively, the Coyotes' performance was in stark contrast to that of last week's lopsided loss to Summer ville High. In addition to holding Riverbank to one touchdown, Denair's defense also put points on the board when Dominyc Silva recovered and returned a Bruin fumble 64 yards for a touchdown.

Valley ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns while Hughes ran for 140 yards and one touchdown. Sylva scored three touchdowns on the night—the fumble return and two rushing touchdowns at the quarterback position.

Denair comes home this Friday to host Argonaut High as the Coyotes seek back-to-back wins for the first time since 2012.

Delhi High turns tables in week 2

Delhi celebrated its first win of the season at home Friday night after beating Florin High 40-12.

With a realigned offensive line—sophomore standout Jesse Flores was moved to center—the Hawks hit Florin with rushing attack that was lead by quarterback Garret Thomas who threw for 103 yards, ran for 103 yards, and scored three rushing touchdowns.

Delhi is back at home Friday when Riverbank High comes to town in the penultimate game before the start of Southern League play.
