Turlock soccer assumes first place in CCC

Turlock High is now in first place in the Central California Conference girls soccer standings with only two regular season games remaining. After a dominating 5-0 victory over then first place Golden Valley High  on Monday —a win that pulled them within two points of the league lead— the Bulldogs took on and took down Merced High on Wednesday, 3-0, to usurp the Cougars as the top team in the CCC.

It wasn’t all about Turlock’s win on Wednesday, though, as a portion of its first place takeover can be attributed to Atwater High who handed the Cougars their second loss of the week with a 1-0 performance. Turlock now leads the field by just one point.

Wednesday’s win was a product of a strong second half that saw Natalie Larson, Aubrey Glidden, and Morgan DeLay get the best of Merced’s goalie in the 52nd, 57th, and 79th minutes, respectively. Glidden upped her team leading goal total to eight with her performance.

Wednesday was Turlock’s fifth straight shutout match. The Bulldogs now have two more regular season games remaining—on the road against Buhach Colony High on Monday and at home against Pitman on Wednesday —both of which are must wins if they are to repeat as CCC champions.
