Turlock High golf pushed through windy conditions Thursday afternoon to claim its fifth league victory and remain undefeated with a 230-257 performance over Pitman High at the Turlock Country Club. The win positions the Bulldogs atop the Central California Conference standings as they prepare for Tuesday’s Mid Season Tournament at Rancho Del Rey in Atwater.

“The guys really fought hard and did the best they could given the conditions we had,” Turlock’s head coach Jason Boswell said. “We’re happy with where we’re at, but we still have a lot of golf left.”

Both the Bulldogs and Pride recorded higher scores than expected but solid performances from Jason DeGraff (44), Hayden Sparks (45), and Teo Chiesa (45) ensured Turlock’s victory.

“Pitman has the ability to go low so we knew it was going to be a challenge for us,” Boswell said.

With Merced and Golden Valley High only two points behind them, the Bulldogs are looking to maintain their number one status with a good showing at the Mid Season Tournament and parlay  it into a second half of league play that sees their scores drop significantly.

“We’d like to win it,” Boswell said of the tournament. “We can win our individual matches, but if we don’t win the tournament we’re setting ourselves back.”
