A joyride in a stolen car by two men didn’t last long as the duo were located by the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force and taken into custody shortly after the vehicle was stolen.

On July 20, StanCATT agents were in the area of Lander and Linwood avenues when they spotted a 1994 Honda Accord that had been recently stolen and reported to the Turlock Police Department.

StanCATT requested the assistance of the Turlock Police Department and together they made an enforcement stop on the vehicle and took two men into custody. The arrest was made without incident and with the assistance of Turlock K9 Keyser.

Daniel Bar, 22, of Newman and Joseph Lopes, 30, of Newman were arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on a charge of vehicle theft. Bar also was booked for a probation violation and Lopes was charged with a parole violation.

The vehicle was returned to the owner.
