A California Highway Patrol officer was spared from injury Friday morning when his patrol vehicle was hit by a car just as he was about to get out.
The collision happened on northbound Highway 99, just north of Taylor Road.
The CHP officer had stopped his patrol vehicle in the center median to retrieve a piece of plywood in the fast lane, said CHP spokesman Officer Thomas Olsen.
The officer was just about to exit the vehicle when it was struck from behind.
A 23-year-old Modesto woman was driving a Chevrolet sedan northbound on the highway, when she suddenly lost control of the car and it went off the highway and struck the patrol vehicle.
There were no injuries from the collision. Alcohol and drugs were not considered factors in the incident.
