A Delhi man and his passenger were critically injured in a suspected drunk driving crash on Saturday.

The collision happened just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday on northbound Highway 99 at the 6th Street exit in Modesto.

The 24-year-old Delhi man was driving a 2008 BMW 328I at an unknown speed when he veered off the highway.

The vehicle hit a wooden post sign and spun out of control on the off ramp. It hit a parked car, two trees and a metal fence, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The car came to a stop in a yard on the west side of 6th Street.

Both the driver and his 24-year-old male passenger from Hayward sustained major injuries and were transported to local hospitals.

The names of the driver and the passenger were not released.

The driver was wearing a seat belt, but the passenger was not, according to the CHP.

The crash remains under investigation and the CHP suspects alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the collision. No arrests have been made.
