Investigators have determined the identity of Turlock’s first homicide in 2010, but few other details of the fatal shooting have emerged.

The victim was identified as Luis Manuel Maldanado Rodriguez, 26, recently of the Washington area, according to the Turlock Police Department.

Rodriguez died from multiple gunshot wounds. He was found bleeding on the sidewalk in front of 226 N. First St.

Turlock Police officers were dispatched to the area at 10:22 p.m. Thursday for a report of shots fired with a man down. Officers administered first-aid and attempted to revive Rodriguez, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shannon Bishop, a Washington resident, and Rodriguez’s former girlfriend and mother of his son, said she had not seen him in about a year and a half. She said he had not been in any trouble during their time together. She did not know why he was in the area or if he had family living locally.

The fact that Rodriguez was not from the area is creating an obstacle in the investigation and detectives are seeking the public’s assistance.

“The investigation is ongoing and we encourage anyone with information regarding the victim or the incident or if they saw anything suspicious in that area to come forward,” said Turlock Police Detective Jason Tosta.

Tosta can be reached at 664-7324. Callers can also contact Crime Stoppers at 521-4636 and can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
