Drunk driver suspected of causing crash
emergency

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after causing a two-car collision in Turlock.

The collision happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Monte Vista Avenue and Geer Road.

Mario Gomez, 19, allegedly ran a red light, striking another car and causing his vehicle to flip over, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Parmley.

The impact caused one vehicle to overturn onto its roof and was located approximately 350 feet west of Geer Road, blocking the eastbound lanes on Monte Vista Avenue. The other was blocking the westbound lanes.

"Thankfully all parties only suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene," Parmley said.

Gomez was displaying objectives signs of being intoxicated and was eventually arrested and booked for driving under the influence causing injury.

Both eastbound and westbound traffic of Monte Vista was shut down for the large debris field and clean up for approximately one hour.
