A man wanted by the U.S. Marshal’s Office for a federal homicide warrant was arrested Tuesday by Turlock Police investigators.

The suspect was identified as Jose Cortez, 41. A federal arrest warrant had been issued for Cortez on a charge of homicide. It’s unknown where the homicide occurred.

The Turlock Police Department had been notified that Cortez could be in the Turlock area and around 5 p.m. Tuesday a detective spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the vehicle Cortez was believed to be driving.

The detective followed Cortez until back-up could arrive. A high risk stop was initiated on Santa Fe Avenue, north of Service Road. Cortez was placed under arrest without incident and later handed over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Office.
