A man suffered minor injuries on Dec. 6 after he was allegedly attacked by a Turlock man armed with a hammer who also stole his car.

Ceres Police were notified at 9:03 a.m. about the victim at Ceres River Bluff Regional Park who was bleeding from the dead and being chased by a hammer-wielding Gary Reinhardt, 22, of Turlock. Officers found the victim and learned that he had driven the suspect from Turlock to Ceres to steal items from Walmart. When they arrived in Ceres they went to the nearby park instead where they proceeded to get into an argument. Reinhardt allegedly smacked the victim in the head with a hammer then took his car to drive back to Turlock.

Ceres Police relayed the information to the Turlock Police Department which located the stolen vehicle a short time later and detained Reinhardt. He was booked into the County Jail for carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim’s minor injuries were treated by fire and ambulance personnel at the park.
