An 82-year-old man was killed in a traffic collision Tuesday night in Turlock.

The collision occurred at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Castleview Drive and N. Quincy Road.

The deceased has been identified as Luis Azevedo by the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office.

Azevedo was driving eastbound on Castleview in a Chevy Lumina with his 72-year-old wife in the front passenger seat.

Azevedo was crossing over N. Quincy when he was struck by a Chrysler Pacifica traveling southbound on N. Quincy, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

The Chevy was hit on the driver’s side, Lewis said.

The intersection at Castleview and N. Quincy does have posted stop signs for drivers on Castleview, but not N. Quincy. There is no indication at this time that Azevedo ran the stop sign.

It is not known at this time how fast either car was traveling at the time of impact. The speed limit for N. Quincy Road in that area is 35 mph.

Azevedo sustained a life-threatening head injury and was taken to a nearby hospital. According to the police department he died from his injury around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The man’s wife also was taken to an area hospital for complaint of pain, Lewis said.

The driver of the Pacifica, a 16-year-old girl, was not injured in the crash.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
