Police identify suspect in teen’s slaying

The Turlock Police Department is seeking the whereabouts of a Turlock resident implicated in the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Jeffrey Chandler, 18, of Turlock. Chandler is being sought on an allegation of involuntary manslaughter for the death of Richard Lee Short III.

Short was shot and killed on June 11 at a home in the 300 block of Mitchell Avenue.

“The investigation has developed sufficient probable cause that Jeffrey Chandler was responsible for the shooting,” said the police department in a released statement.

Chandler fled the scene after the shooting and it’s believed he is being helped by family members, according to investigators.

Short attended Denair Charter Academy and is survived by his mother, father and two sisters.
