Stolen credit cards used in shopping spree
Deanna West

A suspected thief went on a $1,400 shopping spree with stolen credit cards before she was apprehended by the Turlock Police Department.

Around 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1 a woman reported having her wallet stolen out of a shopping cart while at the Safeway located at 3051 Countryside Dr.

The thief used the purloined credit cards to go on a shopping spree, racking up charges at various Turlock stores and taking home around $1,400 in merchandise, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

At one of the stores the thief was caught on a surveillance camera and investigators were able to use the footage to put a name to their suspect. A Stanislaus County Probation officer stationed at the Turlock Police Department identified the suspect as 44-year-old Deanna West of Keyes.

On Oct. 23 investigators served a search warrant at a home in the 5400 block of 10th Street in Keyes and located the victim’s stolen wallet and credit cards.

West was taken into custody and was arrested on suspicion of felony commercial burglary, felony grand theft, misdemeanor petty theft and petty theft with a prior conviction, and felony possession of stolen property.

West is currently being held at Stanislaus County Jail without bail.
