A woman was kidnapped and sexually assaulted after being carjacked as the local nightlife was coming to an end early Saturday morning in downtown Turlock.
The suspect, identified as Rene Preciado Trujillo, 34, was apprehended in Merced County by the Merced County Sheriff’s Department. He has been booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of carjacking, kidnapping with the intent of sexual assault, sexual penetration, attempt oral copulation and battery causing great bodily injury.
The victim in the case, a 21-year-old woman, was allegedly carjacked by Trujillo sometime after 1 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of W. Main Street.
Trujillo forced the victim to drive to several locations eventually stopping in an unpopulated area of Merced County, where he then sexually assaulted her, according to the Turlock Police Department.
At some point during the ordeal, the woman was able to fight off Trujillo and made an escape from the vehicle. She ran to a nearby house and the residents contacted the Merced County Sheriff’s Department. The sheriff’s department contacted the Turlock Police Department at 10:19 a.m. Saturday to let them know they had a victim of a kidnapping that had occurred in Turlock.
Trujillo was seen getting into another vehicle and with that description, deputies were able to locate the vehicle and take Trujillo into custody.
The driver of that vehicle was not involved in any of Trujillo’s alleged crimes.
The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at an area hospital and released.
Stanislaus County Jail records show Trujillo remains in custody in lieu of a $2 million bail. He has a court appearance set for April 9.
