A Turlock man and a juvenile were taken into custody Monday by the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force after being caught in a stolen vehicle with a loaded handgun.

Arrested were Jeramie Hoover, 19, of Turlock, and a juvenile. Both were arrested on suspicion of auto theft.

The arrest was initiated Monday afternoon after StanCATT agents saw Hoover and the teen in a 1997 Honda Civic in the area of Lander and Linwood avenues. A check revealed that the vehicle had been reported as stolen earlier that morning to the Turlock Police Department.

The StanCATT agents began following the car and when the driver pulled in to a gas station on Lander Avenue, they moved in and took both suspects into custody without incident.

A loaded .22 caliber Ruger pistol was located in the vehicle during a search.

Hoover had an enhancement added to his charges because he was arrested while out on his own recognizance on another charge. He had previously been arrested in Merced County and is facing charges of residential burglary and conspiracy.

The vehicle was returned to the owner.
