Turlock man killed in Delhi shooting
Merced Sheriff 2

A shooting in Delhi claimed the life of one man and the arrest of the suspected shooter, who was the ex-husband of the deceased's girlfriend.

The victim was identified by the Merced County Sheriff's Department as David Nilsson, 37, of Turlock.

The sheriff's department was dispatched to a home in the 14000 block of Hoskins Avenue in Delhi around 9:45 p.m. Friday for a report of a shooting. At the home deputies were told by a woman that her boyfriend — Nilsson — had just been shot by her ex-husband, identified as Michael Emana, 48. She said that Emana then left the area with Nilsson in a vehicle.

Deputies began canvassing the area and found the vehicle about two miles from the residence. Nilsson had died from his gunshot wound.

Deputies were able to track down Emana and he was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of homicide.

There was no information released about what prompted the shooting.
