A suspicious interaction between a student and a bus driver with Turlock Transit and witnessed by a Turlock Unified School District employee led to the arrest of the bus driver, the Turlock Police Department reported.

The bus driver, Rene Ledezma, 52, of Modesto was arrested on Tuesday for contacting a minor with intent for sex and attempted lewd or lascivious acts with a child.

On Tuesday, the police department was contacted by a school employee who wanted to report a suspicious incident involving a minor student and an unknown adult male. The reporting party stated they witnessed an unknown adult male handing food and clothing to the student near the school’s perimeter fence.

After speaking with the student, school staff immediately called police to investigate. The officer’s investigation identified the adult male as Ledezma.

Detectives contacted Turlock Transit and confirmed that Ledezma was a contracted employee hired to drive Turlock Transit buses. The City of Turlock contracts for transit operations and management services

At the conclusion of Ledezma’s work shift, detectives met with and arrested Ledezma without incident, said Turlock Police spokeswoman Dominique Sanchez. Ledezma was subsequently booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.

A preliminary search of the victim and Ledezma’s cellphones revealed evidence of inappropriate conversations between the two.

“Because a school employee felt that something inappropriate was taking place and reported it, Turlock Police were able to act swiftly to ensure the safety of the student,” said Detective Nate Urban. “This is yet another example of ‘See something-Say something’ working.”

At this time, there is no evidence of any other victims, according to the police department.

TUSD stated on Facebook that the school was Dutcher Middle School.

“This is an isolated incident and was not connected to any other schools in TUSD,” the District’s post stated. “We would like to recognize our Dutcher campus supervisor whose keen observation and vigilance led to today’s arrest and thank Turlock Police Department for their swift actions to protect student safety.”
