Over the course of six weeks, beginning on Aug. 28, approximately 300 volunteers from the One Purpose fund drive will head out into the community to raise money for California State University, Stanislaus students. The campaign, headed by John and June Rogers, will collect donations and pledges for student success, all of which will go towards scholarships.
“John and June Rogers are steadfast supporters of education, and their leadership will uplift our volunteers and inspire others to give,” said CSU Stanislaus Vice President for University Advancement Shirley Pok. “Together, we are raising the bar for student success, and that success will build a bright future for our region.”
The members who have pledged their support for student success have been split up into two teams, which will be headed by campus community supporters Steve and Nancy Jaureguy and community leaders George and Karna Petrulakis. The teams will then go out into the community with the intent of raising money for student scholarships. Despite the presence of teams, all of the volunteers will still come together to benefit the same goal.
“One Purpose will basically be a friendly competition between volunteers to raise the most dollars for student success,” said Director of Annual Giving Jacqueline Holt.
The fund drive hopes to reach its goal of $1 million raised by the end of six weeks in order to provide scholarships for roughly 10 percent of the university's student population, or approximately 1,000 students. When it comes to disbursing the scholarships, CSU Stanislaus will use the academic performances of students from all majors as a deciding factor.
“I think that our university and community can really both benefit from uniting together in this community wide effort to educate and keep our bright and talented students here in our region,” said Holt. “A fundraiser like this will ultimately benefit our workforce and our economy.”
