Mayoral candidates Amy Bublak, Brad Bates and Gary Soiseth suited up for a good cause at the Stanislaus County Fair on Saturday night as part of Ranch of Horror Inc.’s “Don’t Elect a Brain Dead Zombie for Mayor” fundraiser.

The three politicians were dressed head to toe in full-body protective gear as constituents took their shots with a paintball gun — a fun, political play on the Halloween organization’s popular Zombie Escape attraction.

“They’re under a ton of stress right now and have people hammering them from all sides, so we thought we’d let them have a little bit of fun and show that side instead of the serious side they have to show during the election,” said Molly Amant of Ranch of Horror Inc. “It was a ton of fun — we got to see the mayoral candidates out of their comfort zones and they rocked it.”

Money raised at the fair event will go towards the R.U.F. Foundation, which helps families in immediate need after a tragedy. The event turned out to be such a success, said Amant, that Ranch of Horror Inc. will be inviting the trio out to the Turlock “Feargrounds” during October to compete in more fun challenges.
