No opposition seen for Laugero as DA
Jeff Laugero
Former Escalon Mayor Jeff Laugero is running unopposed for the Stanislaus County District Attorney seat (MARG JACKSON/The Journal).

After resigning his post on the Escalon City Council and moving to Stanislaus County late last year, former Escalon Mayor Jeff Laugero is now in line to become the next District Attorney for neighboring Stanislaus County.

A longtime member of the city council, Laugero resigned in order to pursue the elected DA post in Stanislaus County, where he currently serves as a Chief Deputy District Attorney. Outgoing District Attorney Birgit Fladager had announced her retirement previously and, following an extended filing period for the position since the incumbent was not running, Laugero was the only one submitting papers to seek the post. Fladager’s term expires at the end of this year.

Laugero had served both as a council member and mayor for Escalon. He had announced his intention to move to Riverbank to establish residency in Stanislaus County and was the only candidate to file for the June 7 primary.

He was recognized for his service to Escalon at a meeting last December, presented with a plaque of appreciation for his work on the council.

Laugero is a former police officer and started his career with the District Attorney’s office in 2005.
