Alquist Arms, Downtown Turlock’s biggest draw for local gun enthusiasts, is opening the doors to its new location Saturday morning in a grand opening celebration that is expected to attract a large crowd. The grand opening will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will also serve as a commemoration of the 20th year of operation for the local business.

The new store, located at 1400 Freitas Park, will feature a 1,500-square foot sales floor, triple that of the original S. Center Street location, as well as state of the art computer systems. The increased space will also be accompanied by three cash registers. The combination is expected to help with the flow of customers and create a more welcoming atmosphere, something Alquist customers have been yearning for over the years.

“They’re loving it. They want the elbow room,” Bobby Alquist said. “We’re going to have a bigger selection, new products, and we’ll be able to display all the product we have. At the old shop, I didn’t have enough room to have everything on the shelf.”

To celebrate the new store’s grand opening, Alquist Arms will welcome more than half a dozen vendors and manufacturers to the event, while also raffling away more than $5,000 worth of prizes, with winners announced every hour. No purchase is necessary.

“We’ll have guns, scopes, clothing, shooting bags, hand held lasers, and a bunch more,” Alquist said.

Those in attendance will also be privy to sales on merchandise inside of the store.

“It’ll be killer pricing; pretty much Black Friday pricing,” Alquist added.

Both locations are expected to remain in operation for the next few months before the S. Center Street store is rebranded and restocked with different merchandise.

In addition to the new, larger store, Alquist Arms will also be building a conjoining gun range which is estimated to be completed by the end of the year.
