The Amazonians are coming.

On Wednesday, the Amazon Patterson Fulfillment Center announced that it will begin hiring hundreds of positions for its new site.

Positions for the site include the responsibilities of picking, packing and shipping customer orders, according to a press release sent out on Wednesday.

Construction for the fulfillment center began in January 2012 and is expected to be completed this summer. The 1 million square foot site will be responsible for packaging and shipping large items ranging from television sets to barbecues.

Although Amazon has not stated exactly how many people will be hired for the new site, the company is expected to employee hundreds. New employees can expect full health and dental benefits, stock options, along with a median pay that is 30 percent higher than traditional retail stores, according to Amazon.

In order to speed up the hiring process, Amazon will partner with the Alliance Worknet to host an information session for those interested in working with the company. The session will have actual recruiters from Amazon present to answer questions.

“It’s an opportunity to understand what you're doing, before you go through the hoops of the application process,” said Alisha Cruz, public relations manager at Alliance Worknet.

The session will be open on a first come, first serve basis to 600 members of the community interested in working for the Patterson site.

“Amazon in an incredible opportunity, but those looking to apply should know its ins and outs,” said Cruz.

The sessions will be held on Tuesday at the Modesto Centre Plaza, 10th and K Streets in Modesto. Two times are available to attend the informational seminar — a morning session from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and an evening session from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Candidates can also apply at www.workatamazonfulfillment.com.

Along with the information session, the Alliance Worknet will also be holding a special application event the day after the session. The event will allow job seekers who lack a computer to use those available at the Worknet facility.

For more information regarding either event, contact the Alliance Worknet at 558-2200.
