An industrial accident at a Turlock cheese plant partially amputated the arm of a man fixing a piece of equipment.

The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Central Valley Cheese facility at 115 S. Kilroy Road. Both the Turlock police and fire departments responded to the emergency call.

The man was using an auger to work on a cheese elevator when the accident occurred. Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis said the man’s left arm “got caught between the auger and the pan of the machine,” resulting in a partial amputation.

The man was airlifted to a nearby hospital for surgery.

The accident will be investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, as per protocol.
