Local bakers will have an opportunity to test their pumpkin pie recipes before the big day — and give to those in need in the process — through the 15th annual Pumpkin Pie Contest. The annual pie contest is not only a friendly competition, but pies are also donated to the United Samaritans Daily Bread lunch program. Participants are asked to submit two pumpkin pies to Dubyak Family Chiropractic located at 3008 Geer Rd., in Turlock, between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Monday. The pumpkin pies will be judged by local dignitaries on five different criteria: Appearance, taste of crust, taste of filling, texture of crust and the texture of the filling. First prize is $100 and second prize is $50. The five local judges will rate the pies Monday evening and inform the first and second place winners the same night by phone. All pies submitted will be given to the United Samaritan Foundation’s Daily Bread Program and served as dessert on Thanksgiving Day. For more information, contact Dubyak Family Chiropractic at 668-1944 or The United Samaritan Foundation at 668-4853.
