History of business: Turlock resident Robert Britt has only been a business owner  in the city of Turlock for a few months.

But for Britt, and his custom car painting business Classic Colors, it already feels like home.

“It feels really nice to be here,” said Britt. “The city, my neighbors and just everybody in general has been really friendly and supportive.”

Britt, who is originally from Stockton, began working in the car painting business when he was just 18 years old. In 2001, he decided to turn his talents and experience into a full time job, and opened up a mobile car painting business. According to Britt, business was great until 2008, when the economy took a hit. Coupled with a slowing business, and the need to provide for a family, Britt took a hiatus from the mobile business and sought a full time job. In 2013, Britt once again began receiving calls from eager customers looking for quality auto body painting.

“The economy started getting better and I was getting calls again,” said Britt. “I just like being a business owner; I mean, it’s really rewarding seeing your  business' name on a check.”

As the business was expanding, Britt began finding customers outside of Stockton.  In March, Britt came across what was to become his future home in Turlock.

Britt said his decision to come to Turlock was based on getting a good price on rent in a quality town and a supportive City Council. The council has been so supportive in fact, that they awarded Britt and his business $1,000 as part of the city’s business incentive program.

Having come from Stockton, Britt stated that Turlock provides a much more unique living experience.

“The people seem different here,” he said. “There’s a different atmosphere, the people are just friendlier.”

As for business, Britt stated that it’s been going well and he’s starting to build a solid clientele in the city. He credits the company's family atmosphere and attention to providing a quality customer experience.

“People really care for their cars,” said Britt. “We want to provide customers with the assurance that their car is in good hands.”
