Funeral services for the Newman police corporal gunned down during a traffic stop have been set for Friday and Saturday.
Cpl. Ronil “Ron” Singh, 33, died early on Dec. 26 in Newman after exchanging gunfire with a man he pulled over on a suspected case of drunk driving.
The suspect, Gustavo Arriaga, 32, was apprehended Friday in Lamont and is in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail.
An Honor Guard viewing for Singh will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Westside Theain Newman. An additional Honor Guard Viewing will be form 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Salas Brothers Funeral Home at 419 Scenic Drive in Modesto.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at CrossPoint Community Church at 1301 12th Street in Modesto. The funeral service will be followed by an Honor Guard procession to Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Avenue in Hughson.
Singh was born in Fiji and came to the United States to pursue his dream of becoming a police officer. Singh started his law enforcement career as a volunteer with the Modesto Police Department and then served as a cadet and animal service officer with the Turlock Police Department. He worked in Turlock from 2006 to 2010 and then joined the Merced County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy in 2010. He graduated Modesto Junior College in 2009 with a degree in criminal justice.
Singh joined the Newman Police Department in 2011.
He is survived by his wife, an infant son, his parents and
one brother.
