History of business:
The inspiration behind Turlock’s newest barbershop can be found in its name, Humble Beginnings.
“The way I started out is a humble beginning,” said owner Robert Ramirez. “I started from nothing and now I’m here, thankful and humble.”
Nine years ago, Ramirez began cutting his friends’ hair in his own backyard, charging $3 or even a burrito for a cut. As time passed, Ramirez’s clientele began to grow and the barber took his talents to a downtown shop. Though opening his own barbershop had never crossed his mind, when a space directly across the street from Stanislaus State opened up, Ramirez knew he had to jump on the opportunity.
“I wanted to bring a barbershop with a different vibe to Turlock,” said Ramirez.
Ramirez, along with some barbers from the downtown shop he worked at previously, opened Humble Beginning’s doors in July. Since then, Ramirez has enjoyed getting to know new clients and catering to his loyal customers. He hopes that Humble Beginnings’ friendly environment sets it apart from other barbershops in the area.
“We don’t go a day without greeting everyone that walks through the doors,” said Ramirez. “It’s nice to have a customer sit down and tell you about their day. I even give them advice sometimes.”
Humble Beginnings provides the opportunity for Turlock’s men to enjoy some pampering, with haircuts, hot towel shaves, shape-ups, and eyebrow services, among other amenities. Ramirez said that a lot of men are overcoming the stigma surrounding beauty services for males.
“A lot of guys are into looking sharp now,” said Ramirez. “It’s important – it makes you look clean.”
Ramirez takes pride in transforming the appearance of everyone who takes a seat in his chair.
“I’m a miracle worker,” he said.
