Keyes Road crash kills one, injures another
emergency

A Turlock man was killed and a Ceres man sustained serious injuries when their vehicles collided on Keyes Road Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Christopher Desousa, 33, of Turlock.

Desousa was driving a 2008 Mazda 3 eastbound on Keyes Road, east of Pioneer Road around 1 a.m. Sunday. According to the California Highway Patrol, Desousa was driving the Mazda at a high rate of speed.

Headed westbound on Keyes Road was a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Richard John Agresti, 31, of Ceres.

As the two vehicles were approaching, Desousa suddenly veered across the eastbound lane and into the westbound lane directly into the Silverado, the CHP reported.

The front of the Mazda struck the left front of the Silverado.

Desousa was ejected from the Mazda while the impact sent the Silverado into an orchard, facing in a southeasterly direction. The Mazda came to a rest on its wheels on the south shoulder of Keyes Road.

Desousa sustained fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. It’s unknown if he was wearing a seat belt.

Agresti sustained major injuries from the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital.

It’s unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the collision.
