An unidentified man attempting to cross a rain slickened and darkened street was struck and killed Tuesday evening in Turlock.
As of press time, the investigation was ongoing and few details were available.
The Turlock Police Department has not released the name of the victim, pending notification of family. The police department said he was a 70-year-old Turlock resident.
The man was crossing Olive Avenue near the intersection of Wayside Drive around 6 p.m. when he was struck by a Honda Pilot, said Turlock Police Sgt. Douglas Ravaglioli.
The victim was in a crosswalk when the accident occurred and the rain was falling steadily.
The 44-year-old Modesto woman driving the Honda was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was not driving at an excessive speed when the accident occurred, Ravaglioli said. She was cooperating with the investigation, according to the police department.
The man was rushed by ambulance to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
