The tragic death of a 19-year-old Turlock man was compounded Saturday when a motorcycle rider assisting with the funeral procession lost control of his motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries.

The man was identified as 34-year-old Tyler Daniel Anderson of Turlock. Anderson was helping direct traffic for the funeral procession of Maurice Moniz Jr., who was killed in a motorcycle accident Nov. 8.

The accident that claimed Anderson’s life was reported to the California Highway Patrol shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday on Santa Fe Avenue near Tully Road in Hughson.

Anderson had stopped his motorcycle at an intersection along Santa Fe Avenue to stop traffic for the procession. After the procession passed, Anderson tried to catch up and in the process, lost control of his motorcycle and crashed, according to the CHP.

It’s unknown what caused Anderson to lose control. He was wearing a helmet, but sustained fatal injuries from the crash and died at the scene, the CHP reported.
