emergency

A Turlock motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a SUV on Highway 165 on Sunday night, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The name of the deceased has not been released and is pending next of kin notification.

The collision happened at 9:19 p.m. Sunday on Highway 165, just north of River Road.

The motorcyclist, a 37-year-old man from Turlock, was driving a 2019 Harley Davidson northbound on the highway, north of River Road at a high rate of speed.

Juan Granados, 23, of Stevinson was driving a 2011Chevrolet Suburban and was traveling just in front of the motorcycle. The Suburban was going about 40 miles per hour over the Merced River Bridge, according to the CHP.

For an unknown reason the motorcycle crashed into the back of the Suburban. The force of the impact ejected the motorcyclist off the Harley and off the bridge. He was found at the base of the bridge and had already succumbed to his injuries, the CHP reported.

Granados was not injured from the crash. He was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the CHP reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
