History of Business: Paulished Hair & Nails may have opened its doors in November, but Saturday marks the new downtown business’ official grand opening.

The event will feature several vendors including All About Bling jewelry and purses, all natural oils, Reliv nutritional food and shakes and Younique Makeup. There will be several baskets of goodies raffled off and giveaway boxes for the first new comers. Most importantly, attendees will be able to check out the new salon over refreshments and hors d’oeuvres.

Cleverly named after owner Paula Figueroa, Paulished Hair and Nails is Figueroa’s first venture into the salon industry on her own, though she has been a manicurist for the past 10 years.

 “I’ve been in several salons and I’ve always wanted to open my own,” said Figueroa. “I want it to be comfortable and to be able to attend to the girls as much as I can.”

“The girls” include Maria Alves, Jennifer Holt, Janete McCullough, Angie Melander and Lorena Pacho who, combined with Figueroa, have a collective 103 years of experience in the hair and nails industry.

Nail services at Paulished includes shellac gel and acrylic nail manicures as well as pedicures. Hair services include cuts for men and women, coloring, extensions, keratin smoothing treatments, formal styles, color correction and more.

“You really have to know the chemistry behind the hair,” explained Melander, who travels to Los Angeles to stay up to date on the latest trends. “We definitely watch and learn from each other too.”

Facial waxings are also available at the salon.
