When Joy Dravecky opened a pop-up shop for her jewelry line in 2015, she was unsure how long the Main Street location would last. Thanks to community support, Dravecky was able to open a new, larger store, Shop Joy Dravecky, just down the road at the end of June.

“I could not do what I’m doing here anywhere else, and it’s because everybody is so supportive of local, small businesses and young entrepreneurs,” said Dravecky. “It’s so amazing how the community does that, and I couldn’t do it in a town that wasn’t Turlock.”

Dravecky began making jewelry after the birth of her first son, creating intricate pieces as he napped. Her work combines organic materials such as rough-cut, semi-precious stones paired with gold-filled metal, oxidized silver or vintage brass.

“I use it as my creative outlet,” said Dravecky.

Dravecky and her family moved to Turlock from Colorado five years ago, and at the time, her jewelry line was sold in 20 boutiques and online in her Etsy shop. Now, Dravecky’s jewelry is sold in 100 different retailers, such as Free People, and on her website.

“The jewelry side has really flourished in the past two years,” she said.

After participating in downtown Turlock’s Artisan Walk and selling her jewelry in Glitz Fine Clothing and Boutique Modesto, Dravecky’s jewelry line became well-known throughout the area, inspiring her to open up a downtown pop-up shop in downtown Turlock next to Dust Bowl Brewing Co. A year later, a more permanent location on North Center Street has provided Dravecky with the opportunity to offer more than just jewelry.

Shop Joy Dravecky sells clothing that Dravecky describes as “California chic,” with a range of brands including Jackson and Hyde, One Teaspoon, Flynn Skye and Monrow. Dravecky takes pride in providing basic clothing staples that can be accessorized differently to create a unique look.

“We want to have something for everyone, and the way you wear it or stack it or style it creates your own vibe,” said Dravecky.

According to Dravecky, most of the clothing and accessories in the store can’t be found closer than 75 miles to Turlock, as the items are often shipped from out-of-area companies. Dravecky hand picks each item that is sold in the store.

“I buy what I like, and that’s one thing that sets us apart because no one else is me,” said Dravecky.

In addition to shopping in the store, items can be purchased on the store’s website, www.joydraveckyjewelry.com. For 30 percent off your purchase this Labor Day weekend, enter the promotion code “laboroflove” at checkout.
