The woman killed when she was struck by a freight train in Modesto on Monday has been identified as a Turlock resident.

The Stanislaus County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as Verona Ovrahim, 30.

The Modesto Police Department stated Ovrahim was on the Union Pacific railroad tracks at Eighth and I streets when she was struck by the freight train. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fatal collision happened around 5 p.m. Monday and caused large-scale traffic jams through much of downtown Modesto and hampered traffic coming off Highway 99.
