A Turlock man died Friday morning when his truck hit a power pole and overturned on a Salida Road.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Serafin Gutierrez, 55, of Turlock.

The accident was reported at 8 a.m. on Finney Road, near North Avenue in Salida, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Gutierrez was driving a 2009 Freightliner southbound on Finney. As he was approaching the intersection of North Avenue, a 1997 GMC 3500 truck towing a piece of farm equipment and driven by Efrain Garcia, 53, of Modesto, turned onto northbound Finney.

As the two vehicles passed one another, the left side of the farm equipment struck the left side of the Freightliner, the CHP reported.

The collision caused the 55 year old to lose control of the Freightliner, sending it across the northbound lane and into a power pole.

The collision with the power pole caused the Freightliner to overturn onto its side and slide into a bordering field.

Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Garcia was not injured in the collision, according to the CHP.

The force of the impact sheared off the power pole and downed electrical lines.
