Alan D. Kisling, 64, passed away at his home Tuesday, May 20, 2014. Alan was born in Modesto and raised in Oregon and Washington before moving to Turlock when he was in 5th grade. He served in the Army from 1966-1970. He was recipient of the Silver Star, two Purple Hearts, and Commendation medals. He was very proud to be a Veteran and had served two tours in Vietnam. Alan met the love of his life, Sylvia, through a good friend. Alan and Sylvia were married shortly after he was discharged from his last tour of Vietnam and were married for 43 years. He was employed as a paramedic for 22 years in Turlock, Westside Ambulance, and Coulterville prior to his diagnosis of cancer. He served as Turlock Youth Soccer Association Commissioner for 2 years as well as coaching many teams. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed white water rafting, kayaking, backpacking, hiking, and mountain climbing. He completed an Outward Bound course in 1985 which included climbing Mount Shasta. Alan also spent a large amount of his time over the years becoming a woodworking craftsman.
Later in life, Alan became one of the founding fathers of the 5th Battalion 60th Infantry Association and prided himself on being historian of the organization until a few years ago. He also completed his own family’s genealogy and over the last 5 years of his life, visited places his family made their mark through the Midwest, South and California. He also visited Washington D.C. and other historic landmarks pertinent to the Civil and Revolutionary Wars. Alan loved history especially regarding the Civil war and the founding of the nation he served. He and his wife loved traveling and had visited almost all the United States and Mexico.
In addition to his wife, Sylvia, he is survived by his children Lisa Kisling and Steven (Nora) Kisling and five grandchildren Brady, Lael, and Jaden Turner; Isabella and Liliana Kisling. His wife and children were his greatest treasure and he loved cooking for them and attending all their sporting events. His surviving sister is Pat Frye. He has numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Florence and Howard Kisling and sister, Nancy Erwin.
A celebration of life will be held at Allen Mortuary (Event Center) at 10:30 Friday May 30, 2014. Military honors will be at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella at 2:30. Please leave memories and condolences at www.allenmortuary.com.
