Clarence Winson “Win” Quinley, Jr. died Tuesday, January 10 at Doctor’s Medical Center, Modesto, CA after a short illness.  He was born on Mother’s Day, May 8th, 1927.  The family was on their way from Waterford to the Methodist Church in Modesto when his mother said, “We better stop at the hospital.”  Win attended Waterford Elementary School, Oakdale High School and Modesto Junior College before transferring to San Jose State (College) University where he majored in Business Administration.  Following his graduation he was hired as Registrar at San Jose State University.  After a few years at San Jose he accepted the Registrar’s position at Eastern Washington State University in Cheney, Washington where Joann was attending and working in the Registrar’s Office.  They fell in love and were married in the Methodist Church in the town of Cheney where they lived one year before purchasing their first home in in Spokane, WA.  In 1962 the family moved to Turlock when Win accepted the position of Registrar at the then two-year old California State University, Stanislaus which, at that time, was located at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds.

After retirement he and Joann did a lot of traveling, having been in all 50 states and 35 countries.  Additionally, Win had been registered in the Boy Scouts of America for 77 years, after joining in 1940.  As an avid Scouter, he had held many different volunteer jobs in Boy Scouts locally, district and nationally, receiving many recognitions, and some of his awards from BSA were: Eagle Scout  1943, Silver Beaver Award,  National God & Service Award, Silver Torch Award.  In addition, he enjoyed his years as District Order of Arrow Advisor and organized the OA Dance Team.   He received the Leadership Award in Order of the Arrow, Toloma Lodge.  He was also a long time active member of the Turlock United Methodist Church and Methodist Men.  He had 40 years perfect attendance in Kiwanis Club of Turlock and received Distinguished Kiwanian and New Club Building Award in 1997.  Win received Certificate of Appreciation from United Way of Stanislaus Area, he was a member of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity and Life member of National Education Association and listed in “Who is Who in Education.”  Win proudly served in the US Navy 1945-1946.  Win is survived by his wife, Joann of 60 years,  son, James Quinley, DVM & wife Laurie of Turlock, granddaughters Elizabeth and Julia Quinley of Portland, OR and grandson, Dana Quinley, of Elk Grove, sister Beverly Schoenwetter of Oakdale and several nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence & Helen Quinley and sister, Barbara Grassell.
