Delbert (Del) Lee Brown passed away March 26, 2014 with his wife of 62 years by his side at Paramount Court Sr. Living in Turlock. 

Del was born on May 9, 1931 in Oakland CA to James and Annie Brown. Del will be remembered for his humor, quick wit and generous heart.  In his 82 years Del never met a stranger.

Del attended Oakland Tech High School where he played football.  He joined the United States Marine Corps during his senior year. He met his future wife Diane, in 1948 and the two were married in 1951.  They settled in San Leandro CA. in 1955 with their growing family.  After his military service Del began a career with Pacific Bell that spanned 34 years.

Del’s greatest joy was his family.  Over the years he enjoyed working side by side with family in various projects.  Del loved woodworking, working on cars, photography and watching movies. Once retired he enjoyed traveling with his children and grandchildren.  He was active in swimming programs over several decades. His love of swimming led him to volunteer as a stroke and turn official with USA Swimming until the late 90’s.  Del and Diane moved to Paramount Court Sr. Living in 2011 where he enjoyed his last few years. 

Del will be greatly missed by his wife Diane, children Donald (June), William (Pat), Michael (Wendy), Patricia and Cameron, 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Annie Brown, siblings Thelma, Donalda, Louis, and Melvin.

A Graveside Memorial will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery on Friday April 11, 2014 at 2:30 pm.  In Lieu of flowers contributions can be made to USA Swimming.  Please share your memories at www.allenmortuary.com.
